The following statistics have been taken from the Headway website and have been complied this information based on all ABI hospital admissions in the UK. These include non-superficial head injuries, strokes, brain tumours, encephalitis and other additional conditions 


  1.  There were 348,934 UK hospital admissions with ABI in 2013-14.  That is 566 admissions per 100,000 of the population
  2. ABI admissions in the UK have increased by 10% since 2005-6
  3. Approximately every 90 seconds someone was admitted to a UK hospital with ABI in 2013-14
  4. Men are 1.6 times more likely than women to be admitted to hospital for head injury
  5. Female head injury admissions have risen 24%^ since 2005-6
  6. In 2013-14 there were 130,551 UK admissions for stroke.  This is an increase of 9% since 2005-6 and equates to one in every four minutes.
