Team Brain Injury Support V Direct Employment

Commissioned Agency Care may seem expensive at first glance, compared to Direct Employment however the benefits soon become apparent, as Agency Care is calculated at an all inclusive rate.

Direct Employment may seem cheaper on an hour per hour comparison but does not include all the hidden extras that come with employing support workers in line with Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI).

Recruitment

Recruitment of suitable Support Workers takes a considerable amount of your time and money.  Advertising, sending out application packs, interview and selection, referencing and CRB, is a huge process and takes about three months from start to finish. There is also no guarantee that your Client and the support worker will be compatible, and you will have completed the whole recruitment process for the client to say NO! At Team Brain Injury all of our high calibre staff will be fully referenced and these will have been verified and they will also have a fully enhanced CRB, and have a contract of employment with Team Brain Injury.  The worker can be introduced and start to work with a client, and in the event they are not compatible we can match another worker from our bank of staff.

Training

Support workers must have the mandatory training, including Moving and Handling, Basic Life Support / First Aid, Fire, Health and Safety, Abuse, Food Hygiene, Infection Control and Medication.  The cost of the courses is expensive, the time paid to the worker to attend the training, plus a replacement workers wages to cover a shift, all add to the expense of the training.  At Team Brain Injury all our workers will have all of the above, which is updated annually.  Our Support Workers pass through our Brain Injury training package and receive ongoing education and support.

Sick Pay

Statistics show that Social Care Workers each have an average of 12.3 sick days per year.  With direct employment, this would mean paying the cost of a replacement support worker, as well as paying sick pay.

Holiday Pay

All workers are now entitled to 4.8 weeks holiday pay per year.  With direct employment, you would have to pay for a replacement staff member as well as holiday pay.  With Team Brain Injury Support holiday pay is included in the charge rate and there would be no additional charge for a replacement member of staff.

Client Holidays

If a client takes holiday, and does not need the support worker, dependant on the type of contract, the worker will still need payment for their usual hours and would still be entitled to take their full holiday entitlement at a later date.  At Team Brain Injury Support we only charge for hours our Support Workers actually work, provided we are given at least 24 hours notice of cancellation.

Rotas

Rota's need planning time, and possibly a senior support worker to co-ordinate, especially, where a package has a high number of hours and a number of different support workers.  When there is no availability due to staff sickness, holidays, training etc, Team Brain Injury Support has the back up of a large number of quality staff to be able to provide cover.  Rotas and shift planning are included in the hourly rate.

On Call

The cost of providing an on call service, to cover 24 hours a day, 365 days a year in case of emergency, is included in the hourly rate.  All of our support workers know they have the back up of an on call at the end of the telephone at any time of the day or night.

Disciplinary and Grievance

These can be costly and time consuming, but would all be dealt with by Team Brain Injury.  If you have to suspend a worker with pay, you would also have to pay for a replacement worker.  You also have to take into account your time taken to investigate and manage the complaint.

Supervisions and Appraisals

Supervision is a regular and ongoing process, and can be time consuming.

The supervision and appraisal process is included in the Team Brain Injury charge rates.

Care Planning

The initial assessment, risk assessments and paperwork are all included in the hourly charge rate.  They are not charged for separately and you are not invoiced for any expenses incurred for this service.  Support packages need to be reviewed to ensure that they are meeting the ongoing needs of the client and should be reviewed at least annually, any reviews are also included in the hourly charge rate.

With commissioned agency care, the cost of a care package can be calculated accurately in advance, based on the hours required.  We aim to improve Case Managers time management by dealing with all recruitment, training, sick pay, holidays, rotas, on call, disciplinary proceedings, supervision and appraisals, care planning and risk assessments.
